Suggested Mail Campaign

Introduction

Typically a mail campaign involves influencing a group of people to write someone, such as their congressman, to let them know you are not happy about something and want them to change it. Let me tell you, one letter from several thousand people, or several hundred thousand people, will not do any good. I am nearing 50 years old and I have seen many letter writing campaigns that have accomplished absolutely nothing other than to put more money into the post office's bank account.

The Campaign

A mail campaign can be extremely effective if it is done correctly. Additionally, it does not take much of your time to write a short letter, nor does it cost much to mail it, 37 cents as of this writing. So this is a very desirable approach to let certain people know your thoughts and desires. However, most mail campaigns don't work. The reason being that they are usually a one time shot and not continuous. Compare this to a mail campaign that companies use to advertise their products. You don't just hear from them one time. You normally get multiple mailings over a long period of time. Banks marketing their credit cards are really bad at this. But do you know why they keep doing it? Because it works! It gets results. The same is true with politicians and businesses.

We suggest that when you get involved in a mail campaign to let someone know you are not happy and you want changes made, that you do it regularly. For example, instead of just sending one letter and forget about it, send one letter every month until they make the change. Can you imagine a congressman receiving a letter each month from several hundred thousand people? Do you think that will get their attention instead of just one letter, one time? Remember the old saying, "The squeaky wheel gets the grease." So start squeaking, and start squeaking on a regular basis. If you squeak once and then go away, they will think the wheel is fixed and not do anything. Make sense?

In addition to sending letters on a regular basis, we suggest that you send letters to everyone that can make a difference. For example, if you are going to be involved in an issue that takes political involvement to make the change, don't just send a monthly letter to your congressman, send a monthly letter to your two senators, your governor, your local newspapers, national television news shows, and to the White House. Do you think that if each of these individuals receive 500,000 letters each month that it would get their attention? Absolutely. Remember, the squeaky wheel will get the grease. If the wheel stops squeaking, they will move on to something else.

We also suggest that you contact your family, friends and neighbors to get them involved. The more the better. Just send them to this site.

Technology

Today's technology makes this very easy and less time consuming to do. You can write your letter on your computer and print it out each month for each individual you will be mailing it to. You can even use your computer to print the mailing labels. It would take you approximately 10 to 15 minutes each month to mail out 10 letters and make a big statement.

We are planning on posting links to addresses of politicians, newspapers, and news to help you in your mail campaign. If you are aware of any sites that may provide this information, or be relevant to this site, please forward them to us so we can post them.

If you are interested in using your computer to reach even a larger audience, we have a suggested e-mail campaign that can reach a larger audience very quickly.
